Health Literacy Solutions helps government, non-profit and industry organisations meet the health literacy needs of their communities. We are academic experts and international leaders in the field of health literacy.
As researchers we have been investigating ways to improve health communication for over 20 years. The development of the SHeLL Editor was led by Dr Julie Ayre in 2020 with a seed grant to create a new automated tool that would support the application of health literacy principles to written text. Since then we have refined and developed the tool to be used by anyone, anywhere online to support clear health communication.
To maintain the Editor and keep it working we need to keep software up to date. We also want to make improvements so it can work efficiently for users. Subscription fees for the advanced version of the SHeLL Editor help to cover these costs. The basic version will remain free for people and organisations for whom funds are limited.

The SHeLL Editor software supports users to write health information that is clear and accessible and follows scientific principles of clear communication. This means the information is easier for people to understand and act on. It is the only rigorously evaluated tool worldwide that integrates specific features to address medical jargon and person-centred language alongside readability. This helps to ensure you communicate in the best way possible to your community.
